From Humble Beginnings...

J.F. Allen Company was founded in Clarksburg, WV on March 21, 1946 by James F. and Sara Crile Allen.  The family business began as a general contracting firm with just a few pieces of war-surplus equipment and the talent of two motivated individuals.

Many roads in West Virginia have been constructed or repaired by J.F. Allen Company.  Those included are Interstates 81 and 79, as well as on US Routes 50, 19, 250, 33, 219, and Rt. 9 in Martinsburg, WV.

Most recently J.F. Allen Company was awarded the single largest grading job in the WVDOH history.  The 50 million dollar contract was for the Hardy County Corridor H job west of Moorefield, WV.

As time changed, so did J.F. Allen Company, in the early 1970’s the company expanded their operations to include construction of material supplies.  Manufacturing began with read-mix concrete followed by hot mix asphalt and limestone. Once the company expanded to the creation of concrete, block, and masonry supplies they ran under the trade name of “ALCON”.  Later ALCON split from their parent company and now operates as ALCON LLC.  ALCON is a combination of “Al” for Allen and “Con” for concrete.  ALCON ran under J.F. Allen Company for about 24 years until they split from their parent company on July 1, 2004.  The split occurred so that each company could focus on their specialty and better serve the customers.   ALCON is now located in four locations to serve many areas throughout the state.

ALCON Trucking Company was established on October 1, 1984 so that J.F. Allen Company and ALCON LLC could provide better service to their customers.  This gave the companies better truck access and they no longer had to rely 100% on other trucking companies for service.

J.F. Allen Company and ALCON LLC are now conveniently in Buckhannon, Elkins, Morgantown and Saltwell.
